Critical Illness Insurance pays out a tax-free sum if you become seriously unwell.
If you and your family depend on your income then Critical Illness insurance could be just the sort of protection you need.
It can provide a financial buffer for you and your family while you are ill and unable to work. You get a single payment which you can then use repay the mortgage or any bills, or just used for living expenses until you have recovered enough to return to work. Either way, Critical Illness Insurance cover provides great peace of mind for you and your family.
If you have no mortgage, outstanding debts or children, then critical illness insurance may not be so appropriate for you.
What illnesses are covered?
All Critical Illness policies cover major organ transplants, heart attacks, MS, strokes, kidney failure, coronary bypasses, and certain cancers. But the policies we recommend cover many more conditions than is required and offer a much higher degree of cover by having wider definitions.
Many of the policies you see online will offer cheap premiums but this may be because they do not cover as many conditions or have stricter definitions. Get our expert advice and we will talk you through your options so that you do not end up with cover that doesn’t cover all the things you want it to.
When you take out a policy you can decide how long it will last e.g. until your children have grown up, or until the mortgage is paid off.
Be aware that when critical illness cover is part of a combined policy with term life insurance, it can often be claimed only once. So, if you have had a pay out after a stroke for instance, then the policy is finished and there will be no payment if you die at a later date.
This is yet another good reason to get expert independent advice. There are multiple conditions, clauses and pitfalls when choosing insurance cover. Our Advisers can guide you through the complexity towards a policy which won’t let you down when you need it most.
